NFC West TNF Betting Preview: Rams vs Seahawks Odds and Predictions

Minute Read

On Thursday, the NFC West takes center stage as the Seattle Seahawks host the Los Angeles Rams in a divisional showdown. Both teams come in at 3-1 on the year and looking to keep pace with the undefeated San Francisco 49ers who were on a bye week last weekend.

The Rams want to shake off the disappointment of losing to the Buccaneers on Sunday, while Seattle is looking to win a second straight game and keep that rushing attack trucking over opponents. Kickoff inside CenturyLink Field is at 8:20 PM ET.

Los Angeles vs Seattle Week 5 TNF Game Preview

These two teams have played against each other 42 total times with the Seahawks holding the advantage ad 23-19. However, it’s the Rams that have won six of the last eight divisional battles. Seattle is 11-3 against the Rams at home, but have lost the previous two at CenturyLink Field.

Los Angeles (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season last weekend as the Buccaneers spectacularly upset the Rams by the score of 55-40. LA forgot how to play defense and run the ball. The Rams will need to show more consistency on both sides of the ball if they’re going to win on Thursday in Seattle.

Seattle (3-1) is coming off a strong performance on the road against the Cardinals. They scored on defense, ran the ball with great success, and Wilson was able to manage the game to a 27-10 victory. Seattle will face tougher competition on Thursday against an angry Rams team. Can Seattle win two NFC West games in a row?

The spread initially opened with the Seattle Seahawks favored by 2.5 points. However, the lines have moved quickly, and this game has now become a pick for many NFL betting sites. The Over/Under opened as low as 47.5 points and has climbed up to 49 total points with most online betting sites.

I believe these lines will shift more. I expect Seattle will end up being favored by 1 or 2 points by Thursday’s kickoff. I can also see sports betting sites shifting the O/U to 49.5 or 50 total points.

Free NFL Sports Bet and TNF Prediction: Seattle Seahawks (-117)

Last weekend, the Rams went down 21-0 to the Buccaneers very quickly and were never able to catch back up. The Rams also couldn’t get a defensive stop when it mattered the most. The defense gave up 464 yards and 48 of the 55 points as the Bucs did get a defensive TD late in the game.

It was a shocking performance for a defense that had only allowed 16.3 ppg over their first three contests. This week, the Rams will have to try and stop a tough rushing attack and contain Russel Wilson who can beat them with his arms or legs.

Offensively, the Rams will have to find more rhythm with their running game. Todd Gurley is only averaging 73 yards per game on the ground. QB Jared Goff is throwing the ball at a higher rate than expected. He’s averaging 318 yards per game but has also thrown six interceptions so far.

Seahawks QB Wilson has yet to throw a pick on the year. He’s already tossed eight TDs and has been beating teams with his arm. Wilson hasn’t had to run the ball much. His favorite receiving weapon has been Tyler Lockett who’s averaging 82 ypg and has two receiving TDs. Look for Lockett to capitalize on what the Bucs exposed in the Rams secondary.

Seattle’s running game got back on track last weekend against the Cardinals as Chris Carson rushed for 104 yards. He also didn’t fumble the ball, which could’ve led to a benching. Watch for Seattle to keep riding Carson as they look to control the clock and set the tone for the game.

Defensively, Seattle is holding opponents to 335 total yards and only 79.5 rushing ypg. I expect that front four to get after Jared Goff and make his life miserable for four quarters. If they can put pressure on Goff, then we could see the Rams QB throw a few more picks on Thursday.

The Rams are 3-4 SU in their last seven games as an underdog, 5-6 SU in their last 11 Thursday games, and 3-11 SU in their previous 14 games at Seattle.

The Seahawks are 6-1 SU in their last seven home games, 9-3 SU in their last 12 overall games, 8-4 SU in their previous 12 games played on Thursdays, 6-1 SU in their last seven October games, 8-5 SU in their last 13 divisional games, and 15-5 SU as the home favorite.

Whether the spread moves up to 1 or 1.5 points in favor of the Seahawks, I’m still taking them to win this game outright. The defense is starting to get into a rhythm with all of their new pieces. Furthermore, the offense has its identity back with their rushing attack.

Carson rediscovered his mojo last weekend, and the team dedicated to rushing the ball more. I expect a similar approach this weekend as they would prefer not to give the Rams too many offensive opportunities.

This is going to be an exciting divisional matchup. However, it’s always hard for an opponent to go into Seattle and win. The environment is tough, the crowd is raucous, and the team plays at a higher level. I’m taking Seattle to edge out the Rams this week by creating problems for Goff and not allowing Gurley and long runs. Wilson will outplay Goff and lead his team to victory.
